Community Service Update
by adminSchool Supply Donation to NSPIRE
By: Cheryl Goodwin, CAP
The Municipal Employees Chapter IAAP donated a large amount of school supplies to the Hope House (women and children’s shelter), which is operated by NSPIRE. After learning of this need, we only had a week to gather as many supplies as we could. There were approximately 17 children in residence at that time and they all needed items to start school. The response by our members was amazing!
On July 29, 2011, President Doris Davis, CPS/CAP and Cheryl Goodwin, CAP delivered the school supplies to Gregg Kennard of NSPIRE. He was extremely grateful and expressed his immense gratitude to the members of our organization.
NSPIRE Outreach is working with homeless men and women to help them in cultivating the skills necessary to leave the streets behind for good. Many of these people have experienced homelessness, drug/alcohol abuse, unemployment, physical/emotional abuse and often feel they have nowhere to turn for help. Participants in the program receive assistance with housing, food, employment, physical fitness and health, counseling, continuing education, transportation, personal coaching, spiritual growth. They not only receive assistance with their physical needs, they are given the tools and opportunities to make positive changes in their lives that will help them to become strong, productive and independent people.
NSPIRE is in the process of increasing the level of service provided to the community. For more information on programs and upcoming projects, go to http://www.nspireatlanta.com/#/the-program .
