The past few months has seen some new faces in our chapter. Melissa Clay and Barbara Locke joined us in February and our newest member, Patti DuMestre in June. We look forward to a great partnership with our newest members. Welcome to Municipal Employees Chapter.

Mother’s Day Community Service Project

Thanks to everyone who participated in our recent “Mother’s Day Gift” Community Service Project. Because of you, seven mothers at the HOPE HOUSE received a Mother’s Day gift from their children! The HOPE HOUSE is a program focusing on single women and mothers with children transitioning from domestic violence. The HOPE HOUSE partners with local Domestic Violence shelters to assist clients with the “next steps” including residence, employment, childcare, education, goal setting and much more.

On Friday, May 6, 2011 Donna Mitchell, CPS/CAP and Cheryl Goodwin, CAP delivered to the HOPE HOUSE seven gift bags full of all kind of things from personal items to jewelry and books. Mother’s Day cards were also included for the children to sign before giving the gift to their mother. In an email received from Director Gregg Kennard on Monday, May 9, he advised “all the ladies loved their gift bags and said to tell your group thank you!”

But the gifts didn’t stop with the mothers. The chapter also delivered coffee cups, pens, and tablets donated by the Gwinnett County Fire Department. These items will be used at one of the organization’s homeless shelters. And, a large bag of Beanie Babies was also donated to be given to children at the HOPE HOUSE.

Once again, Municipal Employees Chapter displayed PASSION & PURPOSE!

Community Service Project

We will be collecting non-perishable food items for a local food bank. Please bring your can goods and other items to our February & March monthly meeting. After the holidays it is easy to forget those in need. Help us make this a huge success.

Congratulations to Debbie Boyd

Debbie Boyd recently took and passed her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification test. This is an industry certification for H.R. professionals. Human resources is only one of the many hats Debbie wears in her position as Office Services Coordinator for the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources. Way to go Debbie!

2010 Membership Drive – October 21

The Municipal Employees Chapter would like to congratulate Mary Beth Bender, CPS/CAP on passing her CAP certification this past May. Mary Beth joined our chapter in March of 2009 and obtained her CPS after taking the exam in November 2009. She was installed as the chapter secretary for the 2010-2011 year. Way to go Mary Beth!

Community Service Update

Municipal Employees Chapter members continue to give back to our community. Over the holidays, Debbie Boyd and Donna Mitchell CPS/CAP took time out of their busy schedules to be “ice cream scoopers” for a local nursing home. Doris Davis CPS/CAP had the job of Christmas shopping for the chapter’s Toys for Tots donations. Tough job but someone had to do it!

As we start into the New Year we each need to be reminded of the things we have and have a willing heart to help others. In helping others we also get blessed. Honoring our comittments to the chapter and each other should be every member’s desire.
